Chanel no 5
I used to be literally obsessed with Chanel no 5. I had a bottle at some ridiculously young age.. probably after pressuring mum with every method in my armoury. Well, it's now been a while since I've worn it.. and after forgetting perfume this morning, I sprayed myself whilst the Chanel lady was dusting her shelves in the pharmacy.
I was instantly transported. I only wish words could capture memories as accurately as they were felt. I literally stepped back 15 years.
I hold so many childhood memories dear. My memories focus on winter.. strangely. A warm house. The smell of fabric softener in one end of the house, with the (still to my ears) soporific rumble of the tumble dryer. Mum most likely reading something in her bedroom while something bubbled in the oven. I'd be somewhere with the dog and Jennifer in close proximity.. and we'd surely be vaguely hysterically comotose from the sugar high earlier in the afternoon.
All that- from one sniff of Chanel no 5.

Tom Fruin makes these beautiful stitched plastic works with bags he's found around NY. Beautiful huh?

patterns and pretty
These are so unbelievably beautiful. I love the mix of print and pattern and those adorable cap sleeves. I want it.
My fat visitor
i love i love i love i love
It is my dream to have a hallway, all warm and strewn with shoes and nooks and crooks to sit reading.. or more likely reading blogs.. most of all I want a dog. I so want a dog.

Bilitis
I first saw Bilitis as a teen, probably illegally staying up well past my bedtime to sneak a look at this foggy, long limbed girl extravaganza. It's quite truly terrible and exquisite all at once. Patti D'Arbanville is so very lovely, springing around the screen like bambi. I've always had a soft spot for the soft focus David Hamilton look. All vintage lace and loose buns. It reminds me too of British Style Genius last week, and it's archive footage of Laura Ashley's store openings in the 70s. Ah.. I think it all stems from me falling for this lady and her broderie bodices.
Oh you pretty things
Beautiful lacy pumpkin carvings by the ubiquitous Ms M. Stewart. I wish I had the patience, but don't.. for something so temporary.

Does it get any better than this?
If Perugia was perfect, NY was something I can't even describe. I kept staring and standing still, to make the memories stick as hard as they could. I kept smiling at how lucky I am to see these things, to be in these places, to wake up with a day of new stuff ahead. I wish it had been 20 times longer and yet, it was so complete in it's brevity. I really should have a t-shirt. Because it would be true true true.
Italia and the truffles
I went to Perugia. I turned 33. I stayed in a lovely place and ate amazing truffles. I went on long drives on winding roads and saw new things with older eyes. I loved it. I love travelling. My TT is the best travelling partner. We get as excited as kids. I hope that never changes.
Did you ever see such a pretty road sign in your life?

bad bad blogger
It's a long time since my last blog entry, and I have no real true reason for lack of posts, other than lack of effort. I think I find greater joy in reading other people's blogs than making my own. That... and my preference for nights of long showers and cooking dinner and chatting and fussing with TT. I save things to post, then I forget where they are from, and I know I break the rules- I should be crediting someone for creating such beautiful things. So if I post anything uncredited, it's because I'm forgetful..
I like this site. For I too take great pleasure in a pen. Pen Addict. My favourite pens ever, above.

Top to Toe
Top to Toe-Fashion for kids at the Museum of Childhood. I must venture East to see this. I used to love this museum when I lived nearby. The dolls houses alone are worth venturing to Bethnal Green for. Especially if you can combine it with dinner at Bistrotheque.
The most fun bit of the website is the photos uploaded of real kids fashion over the years. I wish I had access to my photos here... Instead they are in a vinyl suitcase somewhere in a hot attic in Australia.
True Love
I've fallen hard. For a blog. I almost don't want to share it and then I can't help but spread the word. It comes from Brighton. A town I have a little stumbling block with. A failed day out has lodged it in my head as a no-go zone. But this has put a spanner in the works.
Post after post after post of perfect finds.
Delicious Industries. Delicious indeed.
